Northwestern Michigan College Alumni Art Show features more than 30 former students
TRAVERSE CITY — Many prominent alumni of the art department of Northwestern Michigan College will have their works displayed this spring at a one of a kind exhibition, hosted at The Traverse City Art and Design Studio from March 29 through May 31.
“Three Decades of Art of NMC” has been made possible by the efforts of NMC Professor Emeritus Paul Welch. Seeking to find an outlet for all of the great art, and great artists, produced by the college, Welch, who served as the chair of the NMC Art Department for more than 30 years, came up with the idea of an alumni art show. The support of community partners has helped bring that idea to life.
“This show is a representation of everyone who went through the art program at Northwestern Michigan College,” Welch said. “We are proud of our alumni and admire their continued influence on, and contributions to, our community. It is important for the community to learn about, and enjoy, many forms of art."
Welch says he is excited to reconnect with past students and share the accomplishments of the art department over the past several decades.
The show begins on March 29, and a special event for the public will be held Friday, April 25 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. There will also be a special event, Saturday, May 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the studio as part of NMC Alumni Weekend, which also features the annual NMC Barbecue, Sunday, May 18 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on NMC’s main campus.
