  • Any questions regarding Dual Enrollment, please call Avace Wildie at 231.995.1037 or Shelley Rollin at 231.995.1022.
  • Admission is select for Dual Enrollment Students. You must qualify for admission to NMC.

Step 1: Qualifying for admission as a Dual Enrolled Student (Please Read Carefully):

  • Test scores from either the NMC COMPASS Placement Test or the ACT Test may be used to determine eligibility.
  • To use ACT scores for Dual Enrollment eligibility, you must submit your ACT scores to NMC's Admissions Office.
  • If you have taken the ACT Test and scored 19 or better in reading and writing, you may use those scores to determine eligibility for Dual Enrollment.
  • If your ACT scores in reading and writing are below 19, you may take NMC's COMPASS Test to try to improve your chances for eligibility. The COMPASS Test is a math and English placement test. The most recent test scores, whether ACT or COMPASS, will determine if you qualify for Dual Enrollment.
  • If you also want to take a college class that requires proficiency in math, an ACT score of 24 will place you into MTH 111, MTH 121 or MTH 131. If you wish to take MTH 140 or high, you will need to take the math portion of NMC's COMPASS Test to determine eligibility in the math area. If your math ACT score is below 24, you will need to take the COMPASS Test to determine math placement.
Skill Tested ACT Test Scores COMPASS Test Scores
    Reading 19 82-100
    Writing 19 70-100
Math ACT scores 24 or above qualify for the Following courses: MTH 111 Intermediate Algebra, MTH 121 College Algebra, MTH131 Probability & Statistics. All other math courses Require COMPASS Testing.

Dual Enrolled students must score into MTH 111 or a higher level math course. See math eligibility note below.

  • If you have not taken the ACT Test you will need to take NMC's COMPASS Test to see if you are eligible for Dual Enrollment.
  • Math Eligibility - Students may not take any math course lower than MTH 111 even if they pay for it themselves. Math courses below the level of MTH 111 are considered developmental in nature and do not earn college credit at NMC. Students placing into lower levels must take their math at their respective high schools as per State of Michigan, Department of Education policy.
  • There are no eligibility or test score requirements for students taking aviation, studio art, studio music, physical education, or technical courses approved by the instructor.
  • COMPASS Testing is on a walk-in basis Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Career and Employment Services Office in the Osterlin Building. You must have a photo ID and your Social Security number when you come to test. Call 231.995.1041 with any questions.
  • NMC's Counseling Office will send an eligibility letter along with test score results to all students within one week of testing. Your high school counseling office will also receive a copy of this letter.
