Checklist for Applying for Financial Aid
When you apply for financial aid at NMC you will automatically be considered for the following types of assistance:
- Federal Grants, Loans & Work-study
- State Grants, Scholarships & Work-study
- NMC Scholarships
In order to receive any Financial Aid through Northwestern Michigan College, a student must meet these eligibility requirements:
Be admitted to nmc and enrolled in a program leading to a degree or certificate
Complete the Free application for federal student aid (FAFSFA):

The student must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen:

The student must have a valid Social Security Number:
To apply for a Social Security number visit www.ssa.gov (new window).
The student must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress.
The student must not be in default on a federal student loan or owe a repayment of any Title IV grant.
The student must be registered with the Selective Service, if required:
if you are a male 18-25 years of age and you have not yet registered with Selective Service, you may give Selective Service permission to register you by checking a box on the FAFSA form, or by visiting www.sss.gov (new window).
