Legal Assistant Program

A legal assistant, also known as a paralegal, is usually defined as a person who is qualified - through education, training, or work experience - to perform law-related work under the direction and supervision of an attorney.

Graduates of the Legal Assisting Program should be able to:

  • Understand and articulate basic legal concepts.
  • Work well with others in a business setting.
  • Read with understanding; write with skill; prepare clear, well-organized drafts of legal documents; work within precise limits, standards of accuracy, and deadlines.
  • Reason and make judgments; make decisions based on measurable information.
  • Plan and direct projects and activities.
  • Influence other people’s opinions or judgments.
  • Perform a variety of duties which may change often; work on numerous tasks.

Gary W. Klotzbach, J.D., coordinates NMC’s Legal Assistant Program and teaches a number of courses within the program. Local attorneys in private practice also teach courses within the program.
