Taking Critical Thinking/Problem Solving
from the Institutional Plan Into the Classroom
A transformational workshop designed
to guide occupational and liberal arts faculty
in the use of critical thinking and problem solving
as classroom tools for teaching content.
This conference will explore the process of using critical thinking and problem solving to teach content through Foundational and Advanced Tracks; each Track has defined outcomes.
Foundational Track Participants:
- Learn and apply basic theory of critical thinking in the classroom.
- Teaching students to read critically
- Energizing small group activities with critical thinking
- Using questions to promote critical thinking
- Teaching our core student constituency to think critically
Advanced Track Participants:
- Learn advanced classroom teaching techniques
- Designing assignments for critical thinking
- Assessing student performance for critical thinking
- Redesigning courses for critical thinking
- Witnessing the transformative power of critical thinking in students' lives
Participant Outcomes in Both Tracks:
- Network with colleagues from across the state
- Participate in a number of sessions focusing on the uses of critical thinking for teaching and assessing student work
- Attend specific sessions (Liberal Arts/Occupational Studies) on Friday morning
