Career Counseling

Deb Providing Career CounselingCareer Counseling — NMC's Liciensed Professional Counselors meet with students to discuss their needs, abilities, and willingness to complete their goals. The path to get to the student's goal and the options available are also part of this counseling. The counselor may recommend specific tests (free to students) and a one hour test interpretation:

Myers Briggs Personality Inventory (MBTI) - matches the student's personality type with occupations. Strong Vocational Interest Test - matchs interests with occupations.

Computerized Career Investigation — Some students may prefer to investigate careers on their own. The Center for Learning, in NMC's library, has an interactive career program - DISCOVER. Both students and non-students can use this program FREE of charge. Developed by ACT, this program contains:

  • self-assessment tests of interests, abilities, and values
  • descriptions of careers

DISCOVER is available on-line from anywhere. E-mail acampbell@nmc.edu to obtain a password.
