OrientationWho must attend Orientation? All admitted first time students and transfer students with 25 or less transferable credits.
What goes on at Orientation?
What is Placement Testing? NMC has mandatory placement into
Composition and Math classes based on test scores. ACT scores may be
used for placement if both Reading and Writing are 19+ and if Math is
24+. Student is responsible for sending ACT scores to NMC. If ACT scores
were lower, or not taken, then a computerized test called COMPASS is
required. Older ASSET scores may be used for placement, except in Math,
which requires the newer COMPASS test. Students who have college composition
and math courses completed must have a transcript sent to NMC to use
in class placement. Testing and Orientation Dates:Admitted students also receive a newsletter in the
mail outlining the testing and orientation process. What can I do before coming to orientation?
