Discover the Polaroid Transfer Process
Discover the Polaroid Transfer Printing Process to artistically turn your favorite slide photos into prints suitable for framing and gift giving. Learn multiple processes to vary the image and gain interesting visual effects. You will then apply image enhancing techniques using colored pencils, pens, or pastels to put the finishing touch on prints. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to work with Polaroid transfer materials and equipment which will be provided by the instructor and included in the cost of the course. Bring in 20-25 slides for processing and leave with 20 finished prints. Slides will be preserved.

Paper Batik Prints
Enjoy this ancient art-form, that dates back to the 11th and 12th century, in this in-depth one-day printing workshop. Using the “resist” process and water color washes, explore pattern development, color theory, and use of texture to develop prints—perfect for handmade books, cards, and boxes. Supplies are included. Bring your favorite stamps or use the instructor’s collection of vintage printing block stamps from India and Afghanistan.

Stained Glass II:
Copper Foil Technique
Build on your stained glass skills in this second-level course using the copper foil method. With guidance from your instructor, select a more challenging pattern, receive additional color-selection instruction, and refine your cutting and soldering skills. Leather Pouch with Bead Edging
Create a leather pouch just the right size for a credit card or your driver’s license. Learn hand-sewing techniques for leather and edge beading and discover how to add a decorative edge beading with size-10 seed beads to the flap of the pouch you have created. This pouch is small enough to be carried in a pocket but why hide it? Add a simple neck strap and wear it as a necklace. Make a leather thimble to use in other sewing projects you’ll want to make on your own. Please bring reading glasses for fine handwork.

Family Pottery Nights
Bring a family member or two for a few evenings of clay work. After learning some simple handbuilding techniques (not wheelwork), family members will be able to create several different pottery pieces. Creations might include bowls, vases, tiles, cups, or something more unusual such as gargoyles, abstract sculptures, or totem pole rings. We will build with clay in the first two sessions and glaze our pieces the last session. Perfect for holiday gift making.

Continuing Pottery Techniques
Take your pottery skills to the next level through weekly sessions that include demonstration, discussion, and time to work on projects. Explore clay techniques and glazing as you further develop aesthetic values in your creative work. Open lab hours provide additional opportunities to work on your projects. Learn a lost-art technique which is different from the rug braiding most are familiar with. Rather than sewing the braids together, each row is interbraided into the last, resulting in a strong, functional, beautiful rug that will carry on for generations. Learn how to braid your own rugs from start to finish. A list of materials and instructions will be mailed prior to class.

Handmade Decorated Books: Holiday Gifts
Turn beautifully decorated hand made papers into starbooks, accordion folded books, and simple folio covers for unique and very personal holiday gifts. The morning sessions will provide you with a variety of decorated papers for you to transform into uniquely textured paper useful for gift making using the “paste-paper” process. The afternoon session will focus on creating unique gifts using simple folded paper techniques – results will look complicated but the techniques are simple. All materials will be provided by the instructor. Bring a large size watercolor brush if you have one.
