If you enjoy regional history, the romance of shipwrecks, or the work of scientists who bring maritime history to life, this class is for you. Become familiar with theory, method, and technologies in underwater archeology. Review the findings of the Grand Traverse Bay Underwater Preserve’s field season and discover what has been found so far. Special emphasis will be placed on the pictorial evidence and the direction of future research. Detailed knowledge of these “hidden” sites is essential in forming a complete picture of regional history of the Grand Traverse area. Ever wonder what archeologists really do? It’s not all about digging up things. Participate in the measuring and documenting of an actual site and discover the thrill of archeological surveying. Review the theory, method, technologies, and practice of surveying. Then travel to a local beach and in the shallow water put your new skills to the test and make an important contribution to the newly formed Grand Traverse Bay Underwater Preserve by helping to survey the site. Ten Strategies for Settling
the Israeli-Palestinian Nightmare
Guided by James McCormick, author, traveler, and student of both cultures, examine the complex issues and historic proposed solutions from the perspective of justice for all sides. We’ll set aside pre-conceived, media-informed stereotypes to take a hard look at the human realities and tragedies which continue to plague the relationship between two ancient peoples, the Jews of Israel and the Arabs of Palestine. What is just? What is practical? Draw your own conclusions in this interesting discussion where all points of view will be respected.
