This Year's Theme: It's a Small World

Gain insight and up-to-date information by participating in this global lecture series hosted by the International Affairs Forum and NMC. Each month features notable speakers--former ambassadors, government advisors, and think-tank people—who discuss topics in their fields of expertise.

The forums are held on Thursdays in the Milliken Auditorium on the NMC Campus. Everyone is invited to attend the 5:15 p.m. reception. Forums are 6-7:15 p.m.

February 19 Liberal Legacies and Conservative Conundrums: American Foreign Policy in the Next Administration

James Goldgeier is a professor of political science and international affairs at George Washington University, Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, and co-author of the acclaimed new book, America Between the Wars.

March 19 Security and Immigration in a Post-9/11 United States Edward Alden is a Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, former Washington Bureau Chief for The Financial Times, author of The Closing of the American Border, which examines post 9/11 and Homeland Security policies.
April 16 Do They Still Hate Us? Should the Obama Adminstration Care? Ambassador Anthony Quainton is the Program Director of the American Academy of Diplomacy. He previously served as Director General of the Foreign Service.
May 21 Governance, Security, and Reconstruction in Afghanistan: Challenges and Opportunities Ashraf Haidari - Counselor, Political, Security & Development Affairs at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington.
June 18 The World Turned Upside Down John R. Price is President and CEO of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh. He was previously with J.P. Morgan Chase Company, and was President of the Bankers Association for Finance and Trade.
2008 Lectures
September 18 A Fresh Look at Afghanistan

Thomas E. Gouttierre, Dean of International Studies and Programs at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Dr. Goutierre lived and worked in Afghanistan for nearly ten years and was senior political advisor for the U.N. peacekeeping mission to Afghanistan (1996-1997).

October 16 The Palestinian-Israeli Conflict Christina Michelmore is a member of the History Department at Chatham University in Pittsburgh. She spent seven years working and living in the Middle East in Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan and Pakistan. Dr. Michelmore regularly writes OP-ED articles on American Foreign Policy in the Middle East.
November 20 1/20/09: The U.S. in a Post-Bush World Dr. Derick L. Hulme professor of political science at Alma College, and author of four books, including the recently published titled Israeli-Palestinian Road Map for Peace: A Critical Analysis.

Ticket Information
Individual tickets for $10 may be purchased in advance through Extended Educational Services (EES) office for $10 (and at the door, if seats are still available).

Subscriber and Patron Memberships
Membership in the Forum is $125 per year and provides the subscriber with 16 tickets which are good for any of the seven lectures. A number of members have joined as Patrons and you may wish to consider this option. Patron membership is a contribution of $300. As a patron you will receive 16 tickets and recognition on a display in the Milliken Auditorium lobby as a special supporter of the lecture series. You may claim $140 of a Patron's contribution as a charitable tax deduction.
