Watch for details and more offerings over the next several terms.

Gentians, Asters, and Goldenrod:
The Joy of Fall Wildflowers

Discover late summer and early fall common (and not so common) wildflowers in their habitats with biologist, Richard Fidler. Begin both weeks in the classroom to examine flowers close-up and learn about plant structure and identifying characteristics. Then head to the woods to locate and identify late-season blooms. Sessions include walking over uneven terrain. Bring a magnifier and notebook.

2 Mon., Sept 14 & 21, 1-4 p.m.
University Center Rm. 209
Instructor: Richard Fidler
Cost: $55 ($46 with LIFE Discount)

Great Lakes Emerging Issues
What’s happening to the Great Lakes? Formed over 10,000 years ago, they represent the world’s largest group of freshwater lakes. Hans VanSumeren, Director of the Water Studies Institute, guides an exploration that includes their formation during the end of the last ice age, characteristics of each lake, what lies beneath the surface, how commerce has developed, shipwrecks, and how the lakes have and potentially will respond to water level changes, global climate change, and the interaction of aquatic nuisance invader species. The last session highlights new findings from hydrographic work completed in summer 2009.

3 Thurs., Oct. 15-29, 6-8 p.m.
Great Lakes Campus Rm. 112
Instructor: Hans VanSumeren
Cost: $59 ($49 with LIFE Discount)
