The Candidates and the Constitution
Explore election year issues through the unique lens of the constitution. You’ll examine the statements and positions of the political candidates, federal and state, in light of the federal and state constitutions. Discussion will focus on current issues like due process, equal protection, the First Amendment, war powers, regulations, and presidential power. Guided by long-time college history professor and attorney, Allen Horstman, you will review historical background of specific issues and consider policy ramifications. If you have a copy of the constitution, please bring it along.

Get behind the headlines in this lively discussion group that explores eight significant issues of global concern. Weekly topics are taken from the Great Decisions briefing book and include the Iraq End-game, the European Union at 50, talking to our enemies, Russia, U.S. defense and security policy, Latin American, U.S.-China trade policy, and the global impact of private philanthropy. The materials, published by the Foreign Policy Association, provide impartial, thought-provoking analyses in a written guide complimented by updates and PBS video segments.
