Culinary Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded by the Great Lakes Culinary Institute. Contact GLCI for more information and applications.

Adam W. Boyd Culinary Arts Scholarship – this $1,000 scholarship is awarded through the Great Lakes Culinary Institute to a second-year student who has most improved over the prior year of study in the GLCI program at NMC. A grade point average of 2.5 is required.

Chef Pierre Scholarship – awards of up to $1,500 for students in the Culinary Arts program who have at least a 3.0 grade point average in their major. If applicants are equally qualified, financial need will determine recipients.

Duchene Foundation Culinary Scholarship – the recipient of this $2,000 scholarship will be selected via application through the Great Lakes Culinary Institute from those with a 3.0 grade point average who qualify for financial aid. Full-time and parttime students are eligible.

Hansen Foods Culinary Scholarship – $1,000 awarded each year to a culinary student who has demonstrated culinary skill and personal drive, and has a minimum 2.5 grade point average. Full or part-time students are eligible. Preference is given to applicants from Leelanau County if they meet all eligibility requirements.

Lobdell Teaching Restaurant Scholarship – these two $2,500 scholarships are open to all high school seniors in Antrim, Benzie, Kalkaska, Leelanau, or Grand Traverse counties, (including students graduating from the TBA Career Tech Center Culinary Program) who will be attending NMC’s Great Lakes Culinary Institute the following fall. Completion of an application and an interview with a scholarship selection committee are required to select the most qualified recipients. This scholarship may be renewed for a second year of study at GLCI with satisfactory academic progress.

Magnum Hospitality “Missy” Memorial Scholarship – a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student in NMC’s Great Lakes Culinary Institute who best exemplifies the spirit of hospitality. Additional requirements: a 2.75 grade point average, part-time enrollment status, and residency in the NMC six-county service area, Petoskey, Harbor Springs or Boyne City. Selection will be by GLCI faculty from those who complete the required application.

Bob Round Memorial Scholarship – a scholarship of $500 for a Great Lakes Culinary Institute student with a minimum grade point average of 2.0 who is enrolled for 6 or more credit hours. Financial need will be considered for equally qualified candidates.

Rudd Culinary Scholarship – An award of variable amount to a full-time student of the Great Lakes Culinary Institute with a 2.0 grade point average. Residency within the NMC local and service area counties is required.

Taste of Cherries/National Cherry Festival Scholarship – varying awards to students enrolled in the Great Lakes Culinary Institute. Recipients are chosen based on grade point average, “hospitality persona,” and financial need.

Tapawingo Scholarship – awarded to a full-time culinary arts student with a 3.0 grade point average. For consideration, applicants must submit an essay about why they are pursuing a culinary arts career.

Tasters Guild Scholarship – awards of varying amounts to students enrolled in the Great Lakes Culinary Institute with a minimum 3.0 grade point average in their major. Recipients must participate in the Tasters Guild Auction to be eligible.
