Contribute to the NMC Legacy

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

Success!

We know that providing for your family and loved ones is your first priority. We also know you value Northwestern Michigan College's contribution to the quality of your life, from the Dennos Museum Center to the WNMC Radio Station. To help ensure NMC will continue its legacy for generations to come, we encourage you to become a Planned Gift Donor and join the Biederman Society.

What Does Planned Giving Mean?

Planned giving is selecting a way to make a charitable gift that is also favorable to you. While its primary purpose is to help NMC, its secondary purpose is for you to enjoy financial benefits for you and your family.

The easiest way to explain a planned gift is to contrast it with an outright gift. Outright gifts translate immediately into cash gifts, such as annual fund donations, contributions to scholarship endowments, or major gifts for a capital campaign. If you itemize, you can declare your outright gift as a charitable deduction on your income taxes. Many planned gifts also feature this benefit in addition to providing you with other income advantages.

With a planned gift, NMC receives the assets at some time in the future — often after you have received lifetime income from your assets. Your planned gift can be revocable (that is, you can change your mind before your gift is set in motion), or you can choose a planned gift instrument that is irrevocable.

Almost any asset can be used to establish a planned gift, such as securities, life insurance, tangible personal property, and real estate. The choice is yours, and the tax benefits you receive depend on the type of gift and the assets you use to fund it.

What Is The Best Planned Gift For Me?

Your personal circumstances will determine the best structure for your gift and the best way to accomplish your overall philanthropic goals. We encourage you to consult your attorney, tax advisor, or estate planning professional to determine the most advantageous giving opportunity for you. For additional information, we invite you to order complimentary planned giving brochures.
