With the support and partnering of organizations and individuals throughout the region, state and nation, Great Lakes Water Studies Institute results since being formed in 2003 include:

  • Community of Learners, representing educators and advocates across the community who have helped shape freshwater education;
  • Summer Institute for Teachers, grades 7-12, to develop science education around the theme of freshwater;
  • College for Kids summer program to involve young learners in freshwater activities and education;
  • Water Steward Internships to provide hands-on experiences for the learner and support the missions of nonprofit partners;
  • Community Surveys and Needs Assessment to determine the focus of programs and collaborative initiatives;
  • Michigan's Wetlands Conference to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Michigan's Wetlands Protection Act;
  • Grants developed in partership with other organizations to support regionally significant water issues.
