Implementation Team to Act On Volunteer Group's Recommendation

Traverse City, Michigan - There will be a Boardman River Dams Committee/Implementation Team meeting December 12, 2006 at 6:00 PM, Room 211, Hagerty Center, Great Lakes Campus, during which the Implementation Team will decide how to proceed with the recommendations received from the Scoping Team, a group of nine volunteers drawn from the Boardman River Dams Committee membership.

The Scoping Team was requested to provide advice, guidance, and recommendations to the Implementation Team with respect to project budgeting and contracting tasks for the Engineering and Feasibility Study. This study, which will be completed over the next eighteen months, will form the basis for decisions by City and County officials that will determine the fate of the dams on the main stem of the Boardman River.

Decisions about the future of the four dams will have a significant impact on the Boardman River, the ponds created by the dams, and the Boardman River watershed. The process for this study is unique and receiving national attention because it is the only known study of its kind that encompasses four dams and that will examine the social, economic, environmental and engineering impacts of various alternatives.

Additional topics on Tuesday night's agenda include:

  • Boardman Pond report; decision/discussion item
    • Todd Kalish and Dennis Aloia will provide an overview of the potential drawdown of the Boardman Pond issue. The IT and BRDC will discuss proactively addressing this issue.
  • General comments regarding the Content/Process/Relationships of the meeting
    • Todd Kalish will facilitate a general evaluation of the meeting in terms of content, process, and relationships.
