Employee Assistance Program

Type of Committee:
Standing.

Purpose:
To provide advice to the Office of Human Resources regarding the operation, activities and effectiveness of the Employee Assistance Program; to serve as a communication channel with staff regarding Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services.

Membership:
The Chair and Vice-Chair are selected by the EAP Committee, made up of one person from each of the employee groups representing Administrative/Professional, Faculty, Maintenance/Custodial, Support, Technical/Paraprofessional and the Coordinator from NMC’s Employee Assistance Program plus Peer Advisor representatives from all campus areas including at least one representative from Fine Arts, East/West Hall, Communications, Administration Building, Health and Science Building, Beckett Building, Osterlin, Scholars Hall, Dennos Museum, Great Lakes Campus, Facilities, M-TEC, Automotive Tech, and University Center.

Reporting Relationship:
The committee is advisory to the Executive Director of Human Resources.

EAP Committee Member Responsibilities:

  1. Identify ways in which the EAP can better serve NMC faculty and staff, and become more visible.
  2. Coordinate and advise Peer Advisor System by providing periodic training and support.
  3. Communicate with staff regarding services of the EAP and any problems with EAP.
  4. Identify NMC faculty and staff training needs that could be met by the EAP.

Peer Advisor Responsibilities:
Peer advisors are a core group of employees from all NMC areas who have been trained to fully understand the EAP and to properly make referrals.

  1. Serve as a peer advisor for a campus area or building by being an information resource regarding the EAP.
  2. Respect the confidentiality of information shared with them by fellow employees.
  3. Attend training about the EAP program.
  4. Keep information about the EAP in their work areas.
  5. Provide feedback to the EAP Committee so the program can be improved.
  6. Remind employees about how the EAP works but resist the temptation to become involved in the employee’s situation.

Timeline:
The committee meets annually or as needed for approximately an hour.
