Wellness & Ergonomics Committee

Type of committee:
Standing.

Purpose:

• To promote the health and wellness of faculty and staff.
• To be knowledgeable and contribute to the committee on matters relating to health and prevention measures.
• To communicate suggestions and materials to the Benefits Committee regarding prevention measures relating to NMC's health plan.
• To educate faculty and staff on the proper office/workplace ergonomics

Membership:
The Chair and Vice-chair are selected by the Wellness & Ergonomics Committee.
Membership consists of at least one member from each employee group, including executive staff.

Reporting relationship:
The committee reports to the Executive Director of Human Resources. The committee develops and sponsors activities within their budget. If there are any questions regarding the appropriateness of an activity, the group will consult the Executive Director of Human Resources.

Responsibilities:
To promote healthy lifestyles and sound workplace ergonomics through education, awareness, activities, and encouragement by the following:

• Offer fitness assessments and health screening
• Offer workshops on office ergonomics and stretches
• Inform individuals of steps to take to reduce health risks
• Sponsor wellness-oriented activities
• Provide prevention activities and information

Timeline:
The Wellness Committee is an on-going committee which in the fall plans an annual program of wellness and ergonomics activities, with events scheduled throughout the year. Meets approximately once per month for about one hour.
