NMC Overview

NMC is a publicly funded community college serving people, organizations and businesses throughout the Grand Traverse region.  We serve more than 50,000 learners annually – a feat made possible because of our talented and dedicated faculty and staff consisting of over 290 full time and 180 adjunct.

NMC was founded in 1951 by a group of local citizens who wanted to provide an affordable college education for area residents.  In 1955 NMC became Michigan’s first community college under the Michigan Community College Act.

In the fall of 1995 the NMC University Center began offering bachelor’s completion programs and advanced degrees. 

Located in scenic Traverse City, NMC offers programs on four campuses.  With a strong curriculum in liberal arts and more than 30 occupational areas, NMC has implemented a system of shared governance and a quality service philosophy in a non –union environment
