NMC Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control PlanIn accordance with OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard 1910.1030 and the MIOSHA Bloodborne Infectious Diseases Regulations, Michigan R325.700018, Northwestern Michigan College has established an Exposure Control Plan and has determined employees with the likelihood of occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials, without regard to the use of personal protective equipment. All employees in this category must participate in a training program at the time of initial assignment to tasks where occupational exposure may take place and at least annually thereafter. Hepatitis B vaccination will be made available to these employees after they have received the training, which is a series of three shots over a period of months. If they have had this vaccination in the past, they can have a hepatitis B virus antibody screening to determine if their blood still has hepatitis B antibodies in it. If they have already had this vaccination, proof of completion of the series for NMC's records is required by the OSHA Standard. If an employee initially declines the hepatitis B vaccination series or hepatitis B virus antibody screening, but at a later date while still covered under the standard decides to accept the vaccination, the vaccine or antibody screening will be made available at that time. Any employee declining to accept the hepatitis B virus antibody screening and vaccine offered by NMC must sign a declination statement. The Human Resources Department will maintain all training records, signed acceptance or declination of hepatitis B vaccination series or virus antibody screening forms, employee hepatitis B antibody screening and vaccination records, and medical records for employees who have had an occupations exposure.
