Humanities ScholarshipsArtDaniel R. Olson Memorial Art Scholarship – an award for one semester of tuition and fees for one pottery course. Recipients will be required to exhibit their work. Consideration is based on recommendation by an NMC or high school art instructor. Details are available from the Humanities academic area office. Patricia Prout Scholarship – this merit-based scholarship award of up to $1,000 will be given to a second year student with a commitment to study or work in the field of photo journalism or other artistic media. Selection will be by faculty in the Humanities academic area. Paul Welch Art Department Scholarship – Fine Arts majors with demonstrated financial need will be eligible for this $500 scholarship award. An NMC faculty committee will make the selection annually from students submitting a portfolio for review. HistoryStephen and Peg Siciliano History Scholarship – two $500 awards for second year students in the History program who are enrolled for at least six credit hours and have an overall 3.25 grade point average and a minimum 3.25 grade point average in at least eight credit hours of NMC history course work. History faculty will recommend recipients. MusicWalt and Pat Ross Music Scholarship – this award of varying amount will be given to a full-time music student with a 3.0 grade point average or higher. Carrie E. Smith Schuyler Scholarship – one award of varying amount to a female student in the Music program. Kaye Spearing Memorial Scholarship – one $500 award for a student enrolled at least half-time in the Music or Education programs. Recipient must be from the service area with preference given to Suttons Bay students. Financial need will be considered if applicants are equally qualified. Patricia and Gene Wolff Memorial Scholarship – an award of approximately $900 to a music major with an interest in jazz preferred. Recipients may be full- or part-time students with a 3.0 grade point average. Recipients are selected by music faculty. Details are available from the Humanities academic area office. Visual CommunicationsDon Agosa Scholarship – an award of approximately $750 for a Native American student with a minimum 2.0 grade point average who is a resident of Michigan and is in the Visual Communications (Commercial Art) program. TCcottage.com Visual Communications Scholarship – preference for this $500 scholarship will be given to those taking interactive media classes at NMC. Eligible students must be taking 6 or more credit hours and have a grade point average of 3.0. Selection will be by Visual Communications faculty based on portfolio review and academic performance. Knorr Marketing Scholarship – applicants for this $500 scholarship must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, be Visual Communications majors and be taking at least six credits. This award also entitles the recipient to an internship opportunity for 40 hours at Knorr Marketing in the academic year of award.
