General Education Assessment Plan

NMC's approach to assessing the effectiveness of its General Education program is three prong:

Authentic Assessment - Artifact Methodology - measures NMC's goal that near-graduates will perform sufficiently on the outcomes.

Standardized Testing - CAAP Critical Thinking Test Methodology - measures value-added in critical thinking skills

Perceptions of Learning - Graduate Follow-Up Survey - measures Graduate perceptions of learning every year

Schedule

2008-2009

  • Critical Thinking Artifacts (collecting spring semester, scoring May 2009)
  • CAAP Critical Thinking Test (administering February 2009)
  • Graduate Follow-up Survey (administered June 2008 and Dec 2008)

2009-2010

  • Communications Artifacts (collecting fall 2009, scoring January 2010)
  • Graduate Follow-up Survey (administered June 2009 and Dec 2009)

Results

Assessment Coordinator analyzes results, interprets, and synthesizes. Information is disseminated to Curriculum Committee and Educational Services Instructional Management Team to modify curriculum.
