NMC ID Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why was the change made?

A. To decrease the number of usernames and passwords needed to access NMC computing.

Q. Can I still log into Self-Service using my SSN?

A. No, the NMC ID must be used to log in. Call the NMC Technology Help Desk at 995-3020 for assistance with your NMC ID.

Q. Can I still log into Self-Service using my Student/Employee ID (the ID beginning with the asterisk *)?

A. No, the NMC ID must be used to log in. Call the NMC Technology Help Desk at 995-3020 for assistance with your NMC ID.

Q. How will we know which password has been synchronized...will it be the Novell one? (or will it be an entirely new one?)

A. The Self-Service ID will be replaced by your current Novell ID, this is now called the NMC ID. You will use the same password for all systems. Basically no changes for accessing the Novell network, same ID and password.

Q. What will the NMC ID consist of - first initial and last name?

A. It is based on the first 6 letters of the last name and the first initial. If that is already used, then a number is used in place of the first initial.

Q. Who do I call if I can't log in?

A. Please call the NMC ID Help Line at 995-3020.

Q. What hours will someone be available to help me if I can't log in?

A. 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.

Q. Will my [new] NMC ID and password work for Blackboard?

A. Your Blackboard ID will be the same as your NMC ID, however password changes made in the Blackboard system will not be synchronized with Novell, Self-Service, GroupWise or MBX E-Mail during this first phase. Future phases of the project may make this possible.

Q. What is the password format and is it case sensitive?

A. Randomized passwords are generated for all new students admitted to NMC. You will receive a letter with this password. This password is a temporary password. When you log in using this password the system will tell you that your password is expired and will force you to change it. Please follow the process to change your password at that time. Your new password must be at least 6 characters and cannot be a password that has been previously used. Your new password can contain letters, numbers or special characters and is not case sensitive at this time.

Q. How do I change my password?

A. Go to Change your NMC ID Password .

Q. Does my NMC ID account expire when I am no longer an NMC student?

A. It will continue to be active for access to NMC Self-Service and some other library resources that are available to the community.

Q. What can I do to secure the password that I use with my NMC ID?

A. Select a password that will be easy for you to remember but will not be easily guessed by someone else. Securing your NMC ID password means not writing it down on a piece of paper. You can easily substitute numbers for letters in a word to make it more secure. Do not set your internet browser to automatically remember your passwords. Anyone can access your account if you set this feature.

Q. What services use the new synchronized NMC ID?

A. NMC Self-Service, MBX student e-mail accounts, student network accounts, faculty/staff network accounts and GroupWise e-mail accounts for faculty/staff.
