Scholastic Requirements

Applicants admitted to the Academy must be prepared to start the program at the Freshman English and Intermediate College Algebra levels. Readiness to begin at these course levels is determined either by college credits accepted for transfer or through completion of the ASSET or COMPASS exam. ACT/SAT scores are also considered in the application process. A minimum ACT composite score of 20 (1410 SAT) is required for consideration.

Deadlines

Maritime classes begin August 11,2008. Review for acceptance is normally accomplished within five working days of receiving a completed application. Formal reviews for acceptance will be made periodically until mid-June based on the number and quality of completed applications submitted and the number of vacancies (if any) remaining in the class. When the class is filled, remaining qualified applicants will be held in reserve to fill vacancies, as occurring, or will be given the option of being admitted to the following year's class.

  • Deck and Engineering cadet classes fill early in the spring. If either program is your interest area, be sure to apply early. Call (231) 995-1200, if you have any questions.

Veterans And Eligible Dependents

Veterans and dependents who are eligible for education benefits through the Veterans Administration should contact the Veteran's Advisor in the Admissions Office. The Veterans Office exists to assist veterans and other eligible persons admitted to the Great Lakes Maritime Academy in completing and processing VA forms for college. The Veterans Office phone number is (231) 995-1057.
