NMC dancers present "Must Be Modern!" March 8

TRAVERSE CITY, MI –  Northwestern Michigan College’s dance department will present “Must Be Modern!” a concert celebrating the art of modern dance, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8 in the Milliken Auditorium of the Dennos Museum Center on NMC's main campus.

The concert will feature modern dance repertory works under the direction of NMC humanities instructor Dorothy Eisenstein. The following NMC students will perform:  Megan Caplinger, Alora Christian, Tradd Featherstone, Julia Hemphill, Amanda Hoig, Jamaica Humphrey, Julie Knauss, Karen Lee, Christina Marshall, Summer Mitchell, Alicia Murphy, and Julie Nisbet.  The concert will also include a dance choreographed and performed by Jamaica Humphrey, recipient of the annual NMC Dance Scholarship award.

Featuring choreography by guest artists, faculty and students, the concert will include a performance by the Michigan Dance Collective, under the direction of Philip Leete. In addition, the Curious Dance Collective will perform an array of movement pieces arranged by Hughthir White, Michael DeAgro, Zane Schwaiger, and other improvisational performers. Both groups are based in Traverse City

Photo opportunities for media wishing to preview the concert are as follows:

  • Wednesday, February 27, at Milliken Auditorium. Dancers will perform at the end of the student music convocation that begins at 12:30 p.m. They are expected to take the stage at about 1 p.m.
  • Dance classes, held every Monday and Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. and 3:10 - 5:10 p.m. Classes are held in the Physical Education Building, room 120.
