Sneak peek of new PBS series, "Carrier" April 14 at Great Lakes campus

TRAVERSE CITY – WCMU Public Television, in conjunction with the Great Lakes Maritime Academy at NMC, will present a special preview of “Carrier,” a 10-part series that offers an intimate look at life aboard a U.S. aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Nimitz.  

The free screening, open to the public, will be held Monday, April 14 at 7 p.m. at Northwestern Michigan College’s Great Lakes Campus, 715 E. Front St.

“Carrier,” a revealing story of daily life on the U.S.S. Nimitz, premieres Sunday, April 27 at 9 p.m. on CMU Public Television, and runs until Thursday, May 1. Filmmakers shot nearly 2,000 hours of high-definition video from May to November 2005, during a full six-month deployment to the Persian Gulf.

Free refreshments and information about the Great Lakes Maritime Academy will be available.

The 70-minute preview film highlights a core group of characters from the upcoming series, from the admiral of the strike group to the fighter pilots to the youngest sailors, as they navigate personal conflicts around their jobs, families, faith, patriotism, love, the rites of passage and the war on terror.
