The musical program celebrates Michigan's musical leadership, through its universities, public and private secondary schools and summer camps.  The 2008 program features works by Michigan composers, pieces about Michigan, and a piece dedicated to Michigan musicians. Audience members may even know some of the composers.

Listed below are some of the pieces and their composers or Michigan connections.

  • The Lansing State Journal March, John Moss (Benzonia)
  • Prayer and Dream Pantomime, arranged by Joseph E. Maddy (Interlochen founder)
  • Fantasy on American Sailing Songs, dedicated to the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association
  • The Heart of the Morn, H. Owen Reed (Michigan State University professor)
