NMC Fly-in, pancake breakfast set for July 4

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Featuring aircraft from the National Cherry Festival Air Show, Northwestern Michigan College’s fourth annual Fly-In and pancake breakfast will be held from 7:30 - 11 a.m. Friday, July 4 at the aviation hangar on NMC’s Aero Park Campus, 2550 Aero Park Drive.

This year’s Fly-In, a benefit for NMC’s aviation division, has been planned to coincide with the National Cherry Festival Air Show, set for July 4, 5 and 6. A pilot and crew member from the U.S. Navy Blue Angels will speak at the event, between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m., and a majority of the performing aircraft that are in the weekend show will be on display.

“This is a real opportunity for the public to get up-close and personal with the air show performers and their equipment, along with our training facility and local aircraft flying in this area.  You could consider this a free back-stage pass,” said NMC Aviation Director Aaron Cook.

The scheduled aircraft include an Air National Guard F-15 Eagle, U.S. Navy F-16 and F-18, Air National Guard A-10, a P-51 Mustang (retired military craft), U.S. Navy T-45 trainer and others.

In addition, the Aero Shell Demonstration team, a civilian aerobatic team and their T-6 aircraft will be on hand.  Local aircraft of interest and NMC’s fleet will be on display as well.

A pancake breakfast will be served for donations. Funds raised will be donated to program support and student scholarships as well as the Cherry Festival Air Show.

The morning will also include children’s games with chances to win introductory flight lessons and a silent auction with items including wine, golf, FAA check rides, sea plane training, charter fishing and sporting event tickets among others.

Transient aircraft are welcome. The airport identifier for pilots flying into the Cherry Capital  is KTVC. For more information contact NMC Aviation at (231) 995-1220.
