NMC holds Constitution Day panel discussion

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Northwestern Michigan College will mark Constitution Day Sept. 17 with a free public panel discussion on the cornerstone document of American democracy.

The discussion will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 in Scholars Hall, room 109, on NMC’s main campus. The program will feature NMC history department faculty members discussing:

  • How the ancient Romans influenced the Founding Fathers and thus the Constitution
  • The role of the Declaration of Independence in shaping the Constitution
  • The First Amendment and new media and technology in the 21st Century.

Constitution Day marks the date in 1787 when delegates to the Constitutional Convention met for the final time in Philadelphia to sign the document that created the three-branch system of government – legislative, executive and judicial – of the United States.
