TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Northwestern Michigan College will help downtown Traverse City ring in the holiday season with the donation of a 30-foot-tall tree currently growing on the college’s University Center campus, 2200 Dendrinos Drive.
Removal of the Concolor (White) Fir will take place the morning of Thursday, Nov. 20 at the University Center campus. City crews will work with Elmer’s Crane & Dozer Inc. to remove the tree and relocate it to its designated spot at Cass and Front streets.
Each year the city of Traverse City selects a tree to place downtown and decorate for the holiday shopping season.
“This was the best tree available this year, shape and size wise,” said City Parks and Recreation Superintendent Lauren Vaughn.
“NMC is honored to make this contribution to the community for this festive time downtown,” said NMC President Tim Nelson.
A tree lighting ceremony is slated for 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 28 and will include “Santa’s Arrival” as well as caroling led by Traverse City Central High School students.
