Spring Educational Programming at Dennos Museum Center

Traverse City: The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College presents Spring 2008 programming.

Stories, Scribbles and Wiggles

This program is for children ages 3 to 5 and their parents or grandparents.  Each session includes activities in the galleries, a related story, and an art project.  Museum admission applies (member’s admission waived) plus a $1 art supply fee.  Reservations recommended (a maximum of 25 youth per program). Magical Family Day

May 3, 2008, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Come discover the wonder of math, science and art on this exciting Magical Family Day! This Family Day will explore the enchantment of Lightpaintings by Stephen Knapp and the 3D Images of the CalculArt exhibition.  Visitors will play mathematic games, create masterpieces in a variety of media, and discover how mixing color differs when mixing pigment and light.

Adult Workshop: The Inuit Experience

May 8 & 15, 2008, 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Join an arctic adventure to discover Inuit art, culture and daily life.  Get an insider’s look at the museum’s complete Inuit collection, one the most comprehensive in the United States, experience take-you-there films, and learn the basics of printmaking.  Tea, coffee, scones and discussion complete the experience.  Two Thursdays: May 8 & 15, 2008. Introduction to Printmaking Techniques Workshops

Peruse examples of printmaking in the Museum Sculpture Court and try your hands at making your own print in these introductory classes for visitors ages 12 and up.  Preregistration required, call (231) 995-1029.  Each class costs $10 per person ($8 for members).

Arctic Travelogue

The Dennos Museum Center is sponsoring a tour of the Canadian Arctic in August or September 2009 in partnership with Adventure Canada Tours.  Terry Tarnow will present a travelogue on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at 4:00 pm in the Dutmers Theatre. Tarnow has traveled to the Arctic twice with Adventure Canada: “My trips with Adventure Canada were incredible. I met many Inuit Artists and saw so much Canadian wildlife including polar bears, walrus, whales and birds.” The trips include a resource team made up of Inuit artists and scholars, botanists, biologists, photographers, geologists and more. The Dennos Museum Center is open daily 10 AM to 5 PM and Sundays 1-5 PM. Admission is $4.00 adults, $2.00 for children and free to museum members.
