Global Awareness series continues

TRAVERSE CITY -- Speakers on social justice and the developing world will visit NMC in a three-part Global Awareness series in November.

LIVING IN JERUSALEM: BEYOND THE VISIBLE AND INVISIBLE WALLS
Noon, Thursday, Nov. 5, Milliken Auditorium
Angele Khasho Larson, born and raised in East Jerusalem, will share her experiences as a woman in the Middle East, lessons learned from successful and failed policy and cultural program efforts, and discuss the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
IN SEARCH OF SOCIAL JUSTICE AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY WITHIN THE WORLD OF COFFEE
7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, Dennos Museum Center - Janis Room
Chris Treter, co-founder of Higher Grounds Trading Company in Traverse City, will lead a tour around the world to meet some of the most amazing coffee farmers struggling to earn a fair wage. He will share inspiration stories and discuss what a coalition of innovative fair trade farmers and roasters are doing to combat fundamental flaws in the global coffee industry.
STREET CULTURE IN CHINA
7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, Dennos Museum Center - Janis Room
Gary Howe, photojournalist and NMC adjunct instructor of geography, will facilitate his discussion/presentation using a travelogue of images taken from a trip across the North China Plain this past May. Howe, a regular visitor to China, lived in China and Taiwan for five years and is fluent in Mandarin.
