What role could NMC play in helping you address these trends?

Economy

  • Scholarships for gas and daycare; more scholarships.
  • Help attract affordable housing to the area.
  • Help attract more jobs to the area.

Technology

  • Keep abreast of teaching new technology to our workers.
  • Increased technology training.

Demographic

  • Increased activities for retirees to keep their bodies and minds active.
  • Area continues to attract older people, possibly reach them and their assets.
Curriculum
  • Provide language and culture classes in Mandarin and Cantonese.
  • On-going training in higher education but also in the skilled trades area.
  • Educators need to give students reasonable expectations for salaries when they graduate.
  • Continue/expand continuing education to facilitate cross-training.
  • Keep curriculum fresh and up-to-date based on industry needs.
  • Duo curriculum offerings to enhance graduates opportunity.
  • Information Technology education/degrees.
  • Hospitality management degrees.
  • Gaming management degrees (four-year degrees).
  • Finance degrees.
  • Culinary degrees for growth of restaurants.
  • Business education.
  • Dual education programs.
  • Provide degrees/certification for area residents to become able to perform technical medical work.
  • Offer continuing education for employees to keep up skills with all the advances.
  • Workforce preparation/development.
  • Community education: healthcare issues, wellness education.
  • Develop some work ethics; instill pride, ownership, and responsibility in one’s actions.
  • Decentralized managers need training in finance, accounting and human resource issues.
  • Increased management training to give HR skills to be able to avoid difficult situations.

General

  • The community needs to work together to develop more high-tech jobs and new business.

Convener Role

  • Assist with the need for acceptance of diversity to attract the skilled workers to our area.
  • Out-of-box functions—community leadership in regional skill needs with employers and curriculum to support.
  • Focus on providing replacement industries.
  • Non-profit institute focus on human services.
  • Collaboration with 4Cs in regards to career development by offering classes in conjunction with the needs of early childhood providers.
  • Volunteer academy: by resume, commit to service interns, ombudsman, continue to give back.
