Labor Organizations Community Breakfast Comments, March 10, 2005

What role could NMC play in helping you address these trends?

Curriculum
  • Expand the University Center-more offerings; survey area teachers to see what masters classes they would be interested in.
  • Support educators by providing continuing education; they need 6 credits every 2 years to maintain certification.
  • Offer/join ISD tech programs.
  • M.A. programs (survey teachers), cohorts, summers; could ask teachers' union to survey.
  • Classroom Management, Cooperative Learning, year 1; Skills of adaptive physical education, year 2.
  • Increased technology for postal maintenance; NMC prep for electronics.
  • Basic workforce and job skills.

General

  • Continuation-NMC has listened.
  • Make these breakfasts more visible in the media; open invitation for that sector of economy.

Convener Role

  • Continue to be a community resource.
  • Continue to be a training center so employers won't have to send people out of town.
