Deciding On A Career

1. On-Line Resources

Northwestern Michigan College offers students and prospective students access to ACT's Discover software program that you can access at your home or other computer. DISCOVER® provides information and a process to help people make important career and educational decisions. It includes:

  • Assessments of career-relevant interests, abilities, and job values to help you consider career options that are a good match for you.
  • DISCOVER's guidance process provides a way for individuals to make good decisions in choosing a career and creating a plan to make it happen.
  • The system offers complete, current databases of occupations, college majors, schools and training institutions, financial aid/scholarships, and military options.

To access this system, e-mail Career and Employment Services (231) 995-1041 and request a User ID. Upon receipt of this ID, go to www.act.org/discover, log on using your User ID, assign a yourself a password as directed, and you will be able to enter, use, and return to the sight as often as you please.

2. Personal assistance from NMC’s Career Counselors

Northwestern Michigan College offers personal assistance to make career and/or educational program decisions. This service includes the use of the Strong Interest Inventory and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®). These assessments are completed at home and returned to NMC and include a personal interpretation and advising on career information

This is a no cost service for prospective and enrolled students.
