Articulation
A process of transition from one educational institution to another.
Students at the Traverse Bay Area Career Tech Center
have an opportunity to earn Northwestern Michigan College credit for
competencies attained in certain vocational programs at TBA-CTC.
Articulation Benefits
- Start college studies while still in high school
- Spend less money on tuition
- Spend less time obtaining a post-secondary education.
- Receive college credit for courses taken at the secondary level.
- Articulated academic credit appears on the student's college transcript.
Articulation Process
- Student enrolls in the Traverse Bay Area Career Tech Center in a
class which may be articulated.
- Student finishes TBA class and achieves required competencies to
articulate class.
- Student applies and is enrolled at NMC.
- Student obtains the Application for Articulation Credit form from
the NMC Registrar, fills out
the student portion, then returns the form to the TBA instructor. The
TBA instructor approves the class and returns the form to the NMC Registrar.
- If needed, assessments are completed.
- NMC instructor evaluates course work and/or assessments and approves
granting credit.
- Approved articulated credit is added to the student's transcript
as transferred-in credit.
Methods for Achieving Articulation,
one or more of the following:
- Competency testing
- Comparison of course objectives by NMC and TBA instructors
- Evaluation of learning results
- Instructor recommendations
- Placement based on vocational program performance
- Informal interview with NMC instructor

- ACC 121 Principles of Accounting
- CD 290 Service Learning Internship
- HAH 101 Medical Terminology
- Automotive classes
- Computer classes
- Word Processing classes
It is recommended students complete this
procedure within two years of the TBA program.
