Welcome to our home page!  These links will take you on a tour to meet our faculty, visit our classes and learn a little about choosing a biology class at NMC.

First & foremost step to a successful experience with biology courses:

Selecting the proper class based on your educational goals is essential in a successfule experience. Be sure to review How to choose a Biology Class to help you in this step.

NMC and MTU TWO plus TWO Program:

Currently, you can enroll as a biology major at NMC, earn an Associate of Science degree in two years.  Then transfer to Michigan Technological University with junior standing to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in our 2+2 biology program.  Most of our introductory classes  (BIO 105-109) transfer as natural science courses.  Our BIO 115-116 series transfers as first year biology to most four year schools.  Our 200 level courses transfer as 200 to 300 level biology course.

Click here for more infoNursing: The faculty of the NMC Biology Department have a close working relationship with instructors in the NMC and University of Michigan Nursing Schools.  They are continuously working to assure students completing introductory biology courses are well prepared to complete the ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) and BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing). Applied Plant Science: NMC and Michigan State University have Click here for more infodeveloped a one of a kind program that prepares students in the areas of Turf Grass Management, Landscape and Nursery or Fruit Production.  Between NMC and MSU North at the NMC University Center, you can complete a dual degree that includes an Associate of Applied Science from NMC and an Applied Plant Science Certificate from MSU.
Field Studies: For students interested in field biology, NMC offers a variety of course including field laboratories.  Field Biology, General Ecology, and Natural History of Vertebrates all include intensive field activities with live plants, animals and microorganisms.  The extensive natural areas in the Grand Traverse Region offer ample opportunities to study in natural surroundings. Michigan Lichens by faculty member, Dr. Julie Jones Medlin is available on line and is a valuable addition to nature studies done at NMC.
