Greenhouse

banana plant

The Greenhouse is located on the southeast end of the Health & Science Building. It is used by many of the Biology classes for lab exercises and experimentation. Some of our University Center partners use the greenhouse for 300 level courses offered, particularly for the Plant Science Program.

During the month of May the annual plant sale is held during the NMC BBQ. Proceeds go toward supplies and maintenance for the greenhouse. Science Lab Manager, Kirk Waterstripe and Biology instructors Laura Jaquish and Fred Tank help to keep the plant and animal life (there is an inhabited fish tank) flourishing in the greenhouse for all to enjoy.

Current greenhouse population consists of many orchids, a banana plant, several cacti, various Mother of Thousands plants, peace lillies, and so on. And when there is a bloom to be seen, you can often find a flowering plant on display in the Science & Math main office.

Greenhouse & Outdoor Herb Garden

You may also want to check out the Greenhouse Outdoor Perennial Garden. The NMC Biology Department maintains a perennial garden at the southeast corner of the Health Science Building, along the greenhouse.

This garden exhibits samples of culinary and medicinal herbs, some native woodland plants, and other species used by biology classes. There is usually a variety of plants to smell and taste, so stop by and take a sniff or nibble.
