NMC Competes for the first time in the January 2006
Blizzard Baja Car Race
NMC's Student Engineering Chapter participated for the first
time in the Blizzard Baja at Michigan Technological University.
The Blizzard Baja is a race consisting of two 1.5 hour
endurance races over a rigorous track made of snow with
ice as a sub base. The track contained numerous large
jumps and very tight S curves. See
official results
As
all of you are aware of we left for the race at Houghton Friday
morning in a snowstorm that closed NMC for the day. The race
was held on Saturday with sub zero temperatures and wind chills
down to 30 degrees below zero. The NMC Engineering Students
walked away with FIRST PLACE out of 23 cars
entered in the event. The list of schools entered in the race
contains some very prestigous universities.
It was an incredible experience and we are so proud
of the students. The trophy the group received is a
one of a kind masterpiece that must be seen to be believed.
We hope to arrange for the trophy as well as the car
to be displayed in the foyer area of the Welcome Center.
Thanks to Jim Coughlin, Jerry Dobek, Mike Jacobson, and William Shapton
for all their help in making this event possible.
