Started teaching at NMC as an adjunct in 1994. Left to
pursue PhD in 1999, but returned to NMC in 2003. Just
can’t seem to stay away. Over the years, Kirk
has worked with a wide variety of learners in settings
including classrooms, barns, schooners, forests, rivers,
and gardens.
Kirk has settled down in Benzie County with 2 great
daughters and one great wife, building an eco-groovy
lifestyle with lots of home-grown tomatoes.
Accomplishments:
- Organized and cataloged the bird and mammal collections
(’95-’96)
- Established medicinal and culinary herb garden outside
the greenhouse
- Completed inventory and index of supplies and equipment
for biology dept.
- Established a system for receiving and filling requests
for lab materials
Future plans for the Science departments:
- Maintain a safe working environment through proper
chemical storage and disposal, and risk communication
- Finish transferring over 600 images from videodisc
to jpegs so they can be used easily
- Help instructors overcome lab difficulties, or write
new labs that facilitate greater learning
- Suggest labs and demos that transcend traditional
discipline boundaries
- Make it easier to use the plethora of resources
and tools we have available here
