Emergency Guidelines

Call 911 and follow their directions

For Any Emergency . . .
That includes: fire, explosion, leaks and spills of hazardous materials, bomb threats, suspicious letter or packages, civil disorder, life threatening injuries, life safety issues, a tornado sighting, or a crime in progress (including physical/verbal assault)

Code Red — Fire or Explosions: Evacuation

Building Reps.: Always bring a radio with you.

  • Pull the Alarm located near each exit
  • Leave the Building — See evacuation map
  • Meet at Rally Site (specify location)

Code Yellow — Bomb Threat/Event: Evacuation

Building Reps.: Always bring a radio with you.

  • Do Not Use Cellular Phones
  • Do Not Pull the Fire Alarm
  • Leave the Building — See evacuation map
  • Meet at Rally Site (specify location)

Code Purple — Tornado or Wind Warning: Shelter

If a Tornado Warning is issued of if threatening weather approaches, you should seek shelter immediately in a designated area. See the posted "Best Available Tornado Shelter" information.

Best Available Tornado Shelters

  • Move to interior hallways or small rooms on the lowest floor. Avoid areas with glass.
  • Cover your head with a book or hands
  • Remain in place until the "All Clear" is given by emergency personnel

Code Orange — Shooting

Building Reps.: Always bring a radio with you.

  1. Inside and outside the building
  2. Call 911
  3. Lie on the floor, away from windows
  4. Lock the door
  5. Stay in place and await further instructions from Emergency Response Team

Code Green — Bio-Hazard

  • Call 911 and follow their instructions to stay in place or evacuate
  • Avoid physical contact with threat or with those exposed
  • Do Not come into contact with bodily fluids

Code White — Medical / Injury / Accident

  1. Call 911
  2. Provide appropriate first aid if trained
  3. Do Not Transport injured person(s)
  4. Wait for emergency services

Code Pink — Chemical

  • Chemical release in the building: Evacuate upwind
  • Call 911
  • Roll call everyone from your office/classroom
  • Wait for further instruction from emergency services

  • Chemical release outside of the building: Stay in the building
  • Quickly move to an interior hallway or room away from windows
  • Wait for further instructions from emergency services

Code Blue — Regional Terrorist Event

  • Tune television monitors to channel 13
  • Remain in the building
  • Wait for further instructions from emergency services
