Social Science ScholarshipsEducation/TeachingAmy Karczewski Memorial Scholarship Fund for Elementary Education – two $200 scholarships for full-time students with a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average who reside in the service area and are in the Elementary Education program. Maise L. Nugent Memorial Scholarship – one $500 award for a student enrolled in education who has at least a 2.5 grade point average and demonstrates financial need. Recipient must be a Benzie County resident. D. Jerome & Margery C. Slack Educational Scholarship – various awards to graduating seniors from the Mesick, Buckley, Thompsonville, or Copemish areas who are interested in special education and working with students with ADD, ADHD, or dyslexia. A minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average is required. Recipients are selected by high school principals and counselors. Kaye Spearing Memorial Scholarship – one $500 award for a student enrolled at least half-time in the Music or Education programs. Recipient must be from the service area with preference given to Suttons Bay students. Financial need will be considered if applicants are equally qualified. Traverse City Woman’s Club Endowment Scholarship – one to two awards of varying amounts to students in the Associate Degree Nursing, Practical Nursing, or Education programs. Recipients must be residents of Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Leelanau, or Kalkaska County and be enrolled for at least six credit hours. Law Enforcement/Criminal JusticeSgt. Dennis Finch Memorial Scholarship – awards of varying amounts to students from Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, or Leelanau County who are in the Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement programs. Recipients must be enrolled for a minimum of six credit hours. An essay is required. Details are available from the Social Sciences academic area office or program faculty. Social ScienceWilmeth Social Science Scholarship – those pursuing a major within the Social Science academic area are eligible for this $500 scholarship. Additional requirements: demonstration of financial need, a 3.0 grade point average, and enrollment for 6 or more credit hours.
