CALL TO ORDER

Chair Cheryl Follette called the Regular meeting to order at 6:35 p.m.

Trustees absent:   None
Also present:   Sonia Clem, Marguerite Cotto, Jerry Dobek, Bill Hendry, Gene Jenneman, Clay Kessner, Craig Mulder, Tim Nelson, Karen Sabin, Stephen Siciliano

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
The agenda was approved on a motion by Jack Stegenga, seconded by Ted Mattis.

PUBLIC HEARING ON 2005-2006 BUDGET
On a motion by Ross Childs, seconded by Jack Stegenga, the regular meeting was closed and the public hearing was opened. Tim Nelson explained that the purpose of the public hearing was to invite citizens to ask questions and provide input on establishing a regular election date. After receiving no public input, Elaine Wood made a motion that the public hearing be closed and the regular meeting reconvened, seconded by Ted Mattis. Motion passed.

CONSENT ITEMS
The following items were approved on a motion by Walter Hooper, seconded by Ross Childs:

MINI-BAJA RACE CAR
The board heard a special report from automotive instructor Jerry Dobek and engineering student Clay Kessner on NMC's Mini-Baja Car that participated in the Cherry Royale Parade featuring President Tim Nelson at the wheel. The car was on display in the Oleson Center parking lot and will be on display in several campus locations this fall.

FACULTY COUNCIL REPORT
Jerry Dobek said that following the Faculty Professional Development day on August 22, the Faculty Council will meet with Stephen Siciliano to discuss more summer involvement with faculty.

BOARD FINANCE AND AUDIT COMMITTEE REPORT
Walter Hooper reported that the committee is recommending that the College enter into a contractual agreement with Cornerstone Architects, Inc. for design services in the Oleson Center Renovation Project. They also proposed that a contract be awarded to SVEC Construction for
M-TEC and Maple Lot Sewer improvements.

BOARD POLICY COMMITTEE REPORT
Ross Childs said the committee has reviewed Policy A-102.00, Board of Trustees Governing Style, and proposed Policy A-102.01, Trustees Code, as well as three documents received from ACCT that speak to board models for good practice, ethics, roles and responsibilities. The committee recommended that the proposed policy, Trustees Code, be set aside at the next regular meeting. A draft that adopts the national language of the ACCT models will be presented on a first-read basis at that time.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT
Tim Nelson's presentation to the board included a handout on State funding formulas and forecasts that were presented at the recent MCCA Summer Workshop.

ARCHITECT SELECTION
Walter Hooper made a motion, seconded by Ross Childs, that the administration be authorized to enter into a contractual agreement with Cornerstone Architects, Inc. for the Oleson Center Renovation Project in the amount of $85,000, which includes a base bid of $77,99 plus 9 percent contingency, as recommended by the Board Finance and Audit Committee. Motion passed.

MAPLE LOT AND M-TEC SEWER IMPROVEMENTS
Ted Mattis made a motion, seconded by Jack Stegenga, that the administration be authorized to enter into a contractual agreement with SVEC Construction for the Maple Lot and M-TEC storm sewer improvement projects in the amount of $26,364.67 with a 10% contingency in the amount of $2,636.00 for a total estimated project cost of $29,000.67, as recommended by the Board Finance and Audit Committee. Motion passed.

ELECTION DATE RESOLUTION
Ross Childs made a motion, seconded by Elaine Wood, that the election date resolution be adopted as presented. Motion passed. (Attachment)
