Graduate Certificate in Historic PreservationThe Graduate Certificate in Historic Preservation at EMU-Traverse City brings one of the largest and most comprehensive historic preservation programs in the nation to northern Michigan - an area right with cultural resources. By being part of EMU's historic preservation program, you can become an active participant in the efforts to protect the heritage that defines your community. You'll benefit by learning through EMU's renowned historic preservation program, a recipient of the coveted "Certificate of Commendation" for nationally recognized performance in historic preservation education, and your hands-on learning activities will take place in northern Michigan, locations important to you and your community. Through the program, you'll develop critical knowledge of the field of historic preservation, including:
The Graduate Certificate in Historic Preservation requires a total of five courses and can stand alone as a means of updating your knowledge or redirecting your career. Careers for preservationists are available with federal, state and local preservation and planning agencies, consultant planning firms, historical museums/societies, park and recreational agencies and in heritage tourism. And, if you later decide to pursue a full degree, all of your courses can be applied to the Master of Science in Historic Preservation (at EMU's main campus in Ypsilanti) or to EMU's Master of Liberal Studies in Interdisciplinary Technology (at EMU-Traverse City).
