The Zonta Library is an electronic learning
environment in support of higher education. Computers are networked
to NMC via Ethernet and to university campuses via the Internet.
A library assistant is available for assistance.
General Guidelines
Food
and beverages are not allowed in the library. A Student Commons
area with vending machines is located on the lower level of the
University Center.
Due to the learning-related work
environment, we ask that you do not bring children with you into
the Library.
Cell phones turned off and not
used out of respect to the other patrons.
Chat rooms, instant message programs,
and games are not permitted unless you can demonstrate how they
directly relate to your UC coursework.
Printing is charged at the rate
of 10 cents per page and must be paid before you leave Zonta Library.
Deposit printing money in the container provided next to the printer.
The staff person on duty can make change.
A coin-operated copier is available
for making copies (10 cents per page).
Computer Use Guidelines
Current University Center students,
faculty, and staff are eligible to request a network account.
(Please see 'How Do I? Obtain a Computer
Account') Once a user receives an account to access the network
and computer systems, he/she is solely responsible for all actions
taken while using that userID. Users have access to a limited
amount of storage space (3 megabytes), have mail and Internet
privilege, and must agree to:
- Responsibly use mail and Internet
resources.
- Notify UC of misuse of electronic
mail or Internet access
- Notify UC of security problems
- Notify UC of hardware and
software problems
- Back up and store your own
files.
Computer accounts will be revoked for
any of the following reasons:
- Use of the account for the
harassment of students, faculty, or staff.
- Abuse of Internet access,
including commercial use of Internet, messages and actions in
pursuit of illegal activities, harassment of Internet users
at other institutions, and unauthorized game playing.
- Misuse of system, such as
installing personal files outside of personal file space or
using non-approved functions that are unrelated to academics.
- Violation of the privacy or
rights of other users at the UC or elsewhere.
- Installation of programs on
any computer.
- Use of facilities and/or services
for commercial purposes.
- Any deliberate action that
damages or disrupts a computing system or alters its normal
performance.
- State and federal laws and
subsequent legal interpretations mandate that a public environment,
such as a school or workplace, be free of sexual harassment.
When materials considered by some to be offensive, such as sexually
suggestive pictures, nudity, explicit sexual language, in addition
to other behaviors, interfere with the comfort of others, a
sexually intimidating or hostile environment may be created.
Please be considerate of other’s concerns as well as the
law in your use of computers and materials in a public setting.
Do not use the computers for displaying sexually oriented material,
either as pictures or text. If a staff member observes a screen,
which s/he believes could be interpreted by others as offensive,
s/he will ask you to leave immediately. A second offense will
result in a loss of privilege to use Zonta Library.
- Other activities may also
be a violation of system or personal space and may warrant disciplinary
action.
