“When you walk through
the doors of the University Center, you follow the footsteps of
intrepid visionaries who believed that --as a community-- we would
be able to remove barriers keeping its citizens from furthering
their education right here in the Grand Traverse region.
Their names grace classrooms,
hallways, labs, and the multitude of bricks that line our front
walkway. Some wanted a way to help an employee get ahead; others
wanted opportunities for loved ones closer to home. All have shared
a passion and a commitment to learning, and to you.
The universities that have
partnered with Northwestern Michigan College to bring programs to
this region have committed their resources to your success as well.
Together we believe in improving quality of life through learning.
We believe that by collaborating and working jointly we provide
a quality educational environment through which students can meet
a multitude of goals. It is a great vision and has been Opening
New Doors since 1995.
University Center students
come from a very broad geographical area and take courses in over
50 programs that range from applied plant science to the “ZA”
endorsement in early childhood. In 2004 the first opportunity for
a doctorate program was made available. As the community’s interests
and needs change, so do we.
As we look ahead to the next
few years, we are anticipating the availability of new opportunities
in educational leadership, advanced nursing, and a number of technical
specializations among others. We are bringing campus technology
to a new level, and improving services that complement classroom
and online resources.
We invite you to explore us.
The UC staff is available to answer your questions and to help guide
you through the many learning resources of Northwestern Michigan
College and our partner universities.
Add your dreams to our story!"
