I have learned so much from working at the White
Pine Press! I look back on my early days at WPP and I can see how
much I've grown, changed, experienced
and learned. From business manager, to managing editor, then finally as
the editor there were a lot of challenging times, but there were a lot
of fun times as well.
From Marilyn I learned things about writing, editing and being a team
leader that I couldn't have learned in a traditional setting. It was such
a wonderful opportunity to be able to learn as much as I did working side
by side with her in a hands on situation. I am fortunate to have had Marilyn
give me so much one on one teaching. She has also taught me about so many
other little things (and big things) in life that I will always carry
with me.
From Jill I learned that the obvious way of looking at things isn't
always the best way. Over time at WPP, I learned her language, in terms
of design, and she taught me to look at things differently and exercise
my creative side. Working with Jill also allowed me to become more confident.
She always believed in my ability as an editor and eventually I caught
on and started believing in myself as well.
WPP showed me what a great community NMC is by allowing me to meet a
lot people involved with the college in many different ways. Working
with the right people always makes the job easier and more fun.
There were times when I wanted to walk out and there were times when I
wanted to stay longer; looking back I wouldn't change any of it. I made
a lot of friends and a few of the best friends I've known in my life. These
are some of the people who supported me through one of the most challenging
and uncertain situations in my life when I was diagnosed with cancer. I
can't thank them enough for all of their strength and support.
From New Orleans to Dallas we always had fun. Whether it was 2 a.m. in
the production room or 2 a.m. in the bar, we always had a good time and
great stories to tell. I'll always have great memories and knowlege from
working on the student newspaper. I'll never forget the things that
Marilyn and Jill have done for us students and how much I have learned
from both of them. I'll always remember the good times and the good friends
when I think of White Pine Press.
