Cladonia chlorophaea

 C. chlorophaea is a common, cup-shaped lichen with sparse, coarse soredia. The large, well developed, brownish-gray cups flare gradually. The cup centers are closed, and brown fruits, if present, are borne at the margins. The primary squamules are large and persistent. This is the most common cup-shaped lichen found in Michigan on sterile soils and rocks, at the bases of trees, and with mosses.
