| A small crustose lichen, C. tigillare has a warty, yellowish-green thallus with black, lecanorine apothecia. The asci disintegrate and leave a mass of spores . When the disc is rubbed, it leaves a dark stain. This interesting lichen is very subtle and usually goes unnoticed except to a careful observer with a hand lens. It is found on decorticate wood, fence posts and rails. |
