| The distinctive P. caperata is conspicuous because of its yellow-green color when dry and bright apple-green color when wet. It sometimes covers huge patches on tree trunks where growing conditions are optimum. The center of the foliose thallus is characteristically wrinkled. The laminal soredia are coarse and sometimes warty. The rounded lobes are 0.5 to 1 cm wide and lack pores. The lower surface is black with a bare tan margin. Apothecia are rare. |
